Digger D highlights a busy weekend of local football

It was Homecoming week for the Orediggers as the Lights of MSU Northern came to town Saturday. The Lights were trying to put the brakes on a 10-game losing streak to the Diggs, their last victory over Montana Tech coming in a 37-34 win on Oct 18, 2014 in Havre.

The Orediggers had other plans.

Montana Tech scored on their first 7 possessions, in a 73-0 route. In the second quarter, the Diggs slowly started pulling their starters, and nearly the entire second half belonged to the back-ups and ‘young guys’. A great example of everyone playing, Montana Tech had 10 different players with rushing attempts in the game. As a team, Montana Tech put up 467 yards of total offense on 59 plays.

The Digger D was huge again this week, allowing only 28 yards of total offense for Northern.

Go ahead and reread that last sentence, it’s worth it.

Frontier scores:

College of Idaho was able to get some work done on the road, with a big win in Helena, 31-20 over Carroll.

Rocky used a powerful second half to take down the Bulldogs of UM Western 41-26.

Southern goes on the road to take down Eastern 42-14.

Butte High was on the road Friday against the top-seeded Helena Capital Bruins. On a wet night, the Bulldogs fell behind early, trailing 21-0 in the first quarter. They threatened several times in the first half, advancing into the red zone but coming away empty each time. The Bruins would keep the Dogs off the scoreboard all night and get the win 41-0. Capital is 6-0 overall, 4-0 in the Western AA. Butte High is 3-3 Overall, 2-2 in the Western AA.

Bozeman 38 – 3 over Billings Senior

Billings West takes down Skyview 44-7

Gallatin gets the win over CMR 20-17

Butte Central was on the road to Vigilante for a date with the Dillon Beavers. The Maroons started the game executing what looked to be a great game plan, that being “Dillon’s offense can’t score if they aren’t on the field!” The Maroons put together 2 long, clock-eating drives in the first half, the first not resulting in points, the second (in the second quarter) found the endzone and put the Maroons up 7-6 late in the second. Unfortunately, it was the only lead the Maroons would see. The Beavers would go into the locker room leading 12-7, and their offense would add on another 28 points before Central would break into the endzone again. The Beavers would win the night 47-14, with the win they go to 4-1 on the year, the Maroons fall to 1-4.

In a non-conference matchup, Frenchtown gets a win over Kellogg ID 29-20

SW Montana teams:

The Bigfork Vikings who haven’t lost a game since the state title game last year continued to flex their power with a 42-0 win over Anaconda.

Jefferson got the win over big Timber 19-14

Whitehall 43-13 over Ronan

The Flint Creek Titans remain undefeated with a 48-20 win over Cascade

Ennis continues a strong season with a 61-8 win over Deer Lodge

The Falcons of Twin Bridges fell to White Sulphur Springs 39-20.
