The New Year in the Mining City generally means that we are deep in the heart of another Montana Winter.  Although Spring may be a few months away, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors in Butte and Southwest Montana and the SNoFLINGA festival coming in a few weeks is a great way not only to get some exercise and meet some new people but also to celebrate the recreation opportunities available during the winter season here in our beautiful part of the world.

What is SNoFLINGA?

Well, it's Swedish for "snowflake" and the festival here in Butte got it's start in 2016 after a group of outdoor enthusiasts got together to figure out different ways that outdoor recreation and culture could be celebrated by the whole community.  What started out as 8 small events has grown to 18 today across 8 different venues.  The festival is organized and run by the Butte Community Fitness Foundation with tons of support from donors and volunteers.

What events are on the 2022 schedule?

Have you ever wanted to learn how to ski/skate?  SNoFLINGA has you covered. Let's say you are a jogger and want to start the new year with a 5k?  You're good there, too.  Open skiing and nordic skiing?  Indeed, along with kids activities, yoga, snowshoe tours and even the Polar Plunge to benefit the Special Olympics.  And that's just Saturday. Sunday the 22nd will bring everything from meditative yoga to an introduction to hockey.  There will be curling and more.  Truly something for everyone and a full schedule can be found here.
