We are rapidly making our way toward the weekend! (thankfully)

The Montana Tech Orediggers are home this weekend hosting the Battlin’ Bears of Rocky Mountain College. It will be the 135th meeting between the Diggs and the Bears, the first dating back to 1907 when the Montana School of Mines defeated Montana Wesleyan 48-0. (Wesleyan changed its name to Intermountain Union in 1924, and combined with Billings Poly in 1949 to form Rocky Mountain College)

((Fun history -The School of Mines played 3 games that 1907 season, finishing 1-1-1, with a 12-0 loss to the University of Montana on October 25 in Missoula, and a 0-0 tie with the Grizzlies on November 8th in a game played at Columbia Gardens. ))

The overall head-to-head between the Diggs and the Bears favors the Orediggers with 85 wins, 49 losses and 3 ties between the programs. Over the last 10 seasons, Montana Tech is 9 and 5 against the Bears, winning the last 2 meetings.

Other Frontier games this weekend.

Western @ Northern

Carroll @ Eastern

College of Idaho @ Southern Oregon

So far this season Montana Tech has been led by their Defense, The Digger D is the #8 Team defense in the country, only giving up 200.5 total yards per game, and 6.5 points a contest. And their Offense is not far behind, The Diggs are averaging 412 yards per game which is #23 in the country.

Individually the Orediggers dominate the top of the conference numbers:

QB Jet Campbell is #1 in passing yards per game at 233.5ypg.

RB Blake Counts leads the conference in rushing yards per game at 87.5ypg.

WR Trevor Hoffman is first in receiving yards per game at 95.5ypg.

WR Kyle Torgerson is 5th in receiving yards per game at 77.5ypg.

Rocky brings in one of the most electric Quarterbacks in the conference in Nathan Dick, he averages 221 yards a game passing, and 54 yards a game rushing. Dick was injured late in their last game with the College of Idaho, he is not listed on their 2 deep for the game this week… but I would be shocked if he doesn’t play.
