It's off to state for qualifying Butte Central wrestlers and swimmers while the boys and girls basketball teams head into the regular season's homestretch. Here is a look at where the Butte Central Maroons will be competing this week.

What is setting this program apart is their dedication to the team and their desire to hang another state championship banner to the walls of the Maroon Activities Center. Such goals do not come without mastering the basics and practice of the fundamentals, like simply putting the ball in the hoop. At halftime of last Tuesday's boys' game against East Helena, Coach Quinn Peoples honored 27 BC girls who have put the ball in the hoop 10,000 or more times.

The Butte Central Maroons have announced their weekly sports schedule and in an announcement from Activities Director Chad Petersen have decided to cancel their upcoming football game that was scheduled for Friday night against the Park High School Rangers in Livingston.

For the 18th time in his 20 seasons at the helm, Brodie Kelly is leading his Butte Central Maroons boys basketball team into the Montana Class A State Tournament and this year's edition will get underway at 9am as they open play against the Dawson Country Red Devils in the Butte Civic Center.

As far as nonconference basketball games go, this is going to be a pretty big night. Sure, it's nonconference, but when you put Butte Central and Anaconda together, as they say, you can throw out the records.

If you are reading the stat sheet from last Saturday's game against the Polson Pirates, you'll notice that over the final two minutes, a little-used reserve guard for the Pirates came into the game and got a pair of steals along with the game's final two points. You may find this a bit odd. And odd it was. It was also one of the most incredible displays of sportsmanship that you will find on Montana's high school hardwood. Or anywhere, really.
