Butte Central, Dillon Boys to Clash Thursday Night at Maroon Activities Center
Thursday night's midseason Southwest A matchup between the Dillon Beavers and the Butte Central Maroons has the markings of a potential classic. Butte Central has been on a tear as of late, winning their last 8 in a row and they've done it by simply shutting teams down. Even by Coach Brodie Kelly's standards, this team is doing something special. After dropping their first game of the season to the top-ranked Fergus Golden Eagles, the Maroons have been allowing only 34.1 points per game. Previously unbeaten Frenchtown could only manage 42 against them. Earlier in the year, Dillon could only muster 32. And offensively, they're no slouch either. Dougie Peoples is averaging 25 points and 6 rebounds per game. Kyle Holter is tied for second in the conference in steals so far with 23 on the season and he's also good for 10.2 points per game to go with 4.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Their last 2 games have been blowouts, a 71-38 road win at Stevensville and a 73-28 rout of Anaconda a week ago at the Maroon Activities Center.
The Dillon Beavers have been on a roll as well. Since dropping a 42-32 decision to the Maroons in Dillon, the Beavers have won 5 of their last 6 with their last game being a heartbreaking one-point overtime loss to Hamilton on Saturday. The Beavers can get it done defensively with league-leader Eli Nourse entering the game with 26 on the year while Carter Curnow and Caden Hansen each have 23. The Beavers are balanced offensively with Treyton Graham leading the team average with 10.2 points per game. He is followed by Curnow with 9.8, Kyler Engellant with 9.3 and Tyler Lagunas with 8.9 points per game.
The boys will tip off at approximately 7:30pm Thursday following the girls game which is scheduled for a 6pm start time.
