Oredigger Men and Women get Sweep of Providence
Neither victory came easy but both the Montana Tech Men and Women's basketball teams picked up hard-fought Frontier Conference wins over the University of Providence Argos Friday night at Valley Bank Arena in the Montana Tech HPER Complex.
WOMEN - OREDIGGERS 65, ARGOS 58
To say the Orediggers got off to a slow start may be a bit of an understatement as the women fell behind by as many as 9 and did not get their first lead of the game until the 7 minute mark of the 4th quarter. But what a finish it was for Halle Haber and Hadley Humpherys. Haber got 5 points in 1:24 extending the Oredigger lead to 4, 53-49 with 2:30 to play and Humpherys would notch her 1000th career point in the final minute as the #14 Orediggers improved to 13-1 overall, 9-1 in Frontier Conference Play. Haber scored a game-high 15 points, closely followed by Live Wangerin and Olivia Nielson with 14 each.
MEN - OREDIGGERS 80, ARGOS 66
Camden LaRance, one could argue, was on fire. The senior guard was 9 of 12 from the floor, including 5 of 8 from beyond the arc, leading all scorers with 23 as the Orediggers outscored the Argos 43-31 in the second half to earn an 80-66 win. The Orediggers led by as many as 18 in the second half. LaRance was one of four Orediggers scoring in double-digits as Karson Peffer added 18, Brayden Koch contributed 12 points and Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Week Hayden Diekhans had 11.
The Orediggers will return to Kelvin Sampson Court on Saturday evening hosting MSU-Northern. The women's game will start at 5pm with the men to follow at approximately 7pm.
