Exclusive Details: Matt’s Place Transformation for Major Film
BUTTE, MT - Did you happen to take a drive down Rowe Road yesterday here in Butte?
If you did, you might have noticed that things were a little bit different than usual. Someone like myself, who drives down Rowe and goes past the historic and beloved Matt's Place building everyday, noticed immediately that there was a lot of activity going on outside and inside the lonely old restaurant. In fact, throughout the entire day, there were probably around 50-100 people there at any given time, so it must be a pretty big project. So what was going on?
I decided I would investigate myself and see if I could get to the bottom of what all the activity was. From the get-go, it was obvious that it was some type of film shoot, and not just your run of the mill college kid film shoot, either. I saw there were a few box trucks carrying hundreds of pounds of film equipment, with dozens of people on the production team unloading and getting the facade of Matt's Place setup for some shooting. However, it didn't stop there.
Inside, the whole place was designed as it used to be: a lovely homestyle dinner. That's right, the entire interior was bustling with actors and production team members alike, dressed up in what looked like old school dress attire from the 1950s (though I'm not positive on the time frame). Unfortunately, I was not able to take any photos of this since the crew wasn't too keen on me wandering around their set—rightfully so.
At first, I thought they weren't going to tell me anything, especially since everyone I spoke to told me that they were under NDAs, or Non-Disclosure Agreements. They also did not appreciate me walking around taking pictures like the paparazzi. I did, however, manage to secure some details about the film and what they were shooting from a reliable source who was on set all day:
The film is called "There, There," and is described as a film being about, "Two brothers, separated for 40 years, live unaware of each other until fate intervenes, forcing them to confront a long-hidden truth." It is written and directed by two brothers, Michael and Mark Polish, and stars Corbin Bernsen and Shannyn Sossamon. The LA-based production company Convergence Entertainment Group were the ones setting up and producing the shoot, which is a company co-founded by Cohen brother Joel Cohen. More details about the film can be found on its IMDB page and this Deadline article.
The film is hoping for a Sundance 2025 premiere. We're excited to see where the film goes and how it portrays the iconic Matt's Place building!
