DO NOT EAT This Popular Snack: New Recall Details for MT
BUTTE, MT - Montanans with a sweet tooth might want to take a second look at their snack stash.

A nationwide recall has been issued for a popular chocolate product sold at Meijer stores—and while Montana isn’t home to Meijer locations, the recall affects regional consumers (like us) due to online orders, travel purchases, and possible third-party retail channels that stock the brand.
At the center of the concern: Frederik’s Dark Chocolate Almonds, which have been pulled from shelves after it was discovered that some packages may actually contain dark chocolate-covered cashews instead.
The catch? Cashews are not listed on the label—a potentially life-threatening mistake for those with nut allergies.
The issue was first reported by a customer, prompting Meijer to issue a voluntary recall. According to their official statement, the mislabeled product poses a serious risk to individuals allergic to cashews, potentially triggering reactions as severe as anaphylaxis.
Here’s what to look for:
Frederik's Dark Chocolate Almonds in black stand-up pouches with sell-by dates of 05/07/2026 or 05/28/2026
8-count, 1.5-ounce multi-pack boxes with a sell-by date of 05/05/2026
These products were distributed across Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, and Wisconsin, but as with many food recalls, it’s not unusual for them to be shared, resold, or gifted across state lines—particularly in a tight-knit region like the Upper Midwest and Northern Rockies.
What to Do If You Have This Recalled Product
If you’ve picked up a pack during recent travels or had one shipped in, you should stop consuming the product immediately.
Affected customers can return the item to any Meijer customer service desk for a full refund.
For more information, Meijer’s customer service is available at 1-800-543-3704, daily between 7 a.m. and 1 a.m. EDT.
If you believe you or a loved one may have experienced a reaction to this product, contact a healthcare provider immediately.
As Montana families stock up for road trips, hikes, and lake days, this serves as a good reminder: always double-check your labels — especially when it comes to allergens that can be hidden in even the most innocent of snacks.
