A singer/songwriter might be the most literal of them. Over his 20+ years of operating in the music scene, Pokey has amassed a large fanbase and successful career based on his incredibly talented vocals and his even more authentic lyricism.

Though many have tried to pin down just exactly which genre he fits into with his soul-filled melodies, classic-inspired analogues, and hauntingly-folky arrangements, Pokey always manages to cleverly check another box as he progresses from record to record, never looking back—or forward, really, since he's always settled in the moment.

It doesn't just end there. At the heart of it all, what seemed to me to be his core driving component, is something we all relate to, but not in the way Pokey humbly embodies it. Being recently married to the woman of his dreams and buying a place they call home, Pokey is truly a family man, and, hopefully soon, a father. It sure makes for a great foundation for his timeless music.

And, at the end of the day, that's exactly what he is: timeless. His sound? Something you could listen to in 1950 or 2050. His songwriting? Something all of us relate to and embark on together, no matter what era in time we're in. His self? An authentic slice of humanity.

Whether crafting an album, acting in a film, taking care of his family, or going for a stroll around town, Pokey really is timeless in his authenticity. And, like all of us, is just trying to figure it out, one step at a time.

Like Pokey said himself, we're all just "trying to find the right colors to paint our picture."
