New Study Reveals Montana Ranks Top 5 for Skin Health
BUTTE, MT - Another reason to love Montana has just presented itself.
According to a recent study from Clarins, Montana comes in 4th on the list of states with the best environments for skin health. Let’s break down what makes the Treasure State a skin-loving paradise, according to the study's metrics.
Clear Air for a Clear Complexion
Montana’s reputation for fresh air isn’t just a brag—it’s backed by science. Clarins’ study took into account air pollution levels, and Montana scored highly: Montanas air quality was ranked at 14 out of 50, with 50 being the most polluted air of the states.
Less pollution means fewer airborne toxins and irritants that can clog pores and cause breakouts. Whether you're hiking through Glacier National Park or strolling around Butte, your skin benefits from the state’s cleaner, breathable atmosphere.
UV Exposure? No Sweat
You might be aware of the fact that one of the major culprits behind premature aging and skin damage is UV exposure. While Montana gets its fair share of sun, the state’s UV index is relatively moderate compared to other places.
In UV exposure, Montana ranks 27th out of 50, with 1st being the most exposure measured for a state. Though that means Montanans may still need to use that sunscreen, we're in a much better spot to enjoy outdoor activities without worrying too much about overexposure, and our skin is all the better for it.
Humidity Keeps Skin Happy
Montana’s balanced humidity levels play a big role in keeping skin healthy. Extreme dryness can lead to cracked, flaky skin, while too much humidity can cause oiliness and breakouts. Montana strikes that Goldilocks zone of "just right" for humidity—ranked 9th out of the 50 states—ensuring your skin stays well-hydrated.
Why the Study Matters
Clarins used a mix of climate factors like UV levels, air quality, and humidity to determine which states provide the healthiest environments for your skin. Montana’s stellar rankings reflect its unique combination of clean air, manageable UV exposure, and ideal humidity. And considering how we like to base our lives around the outdoors, it’s nice to know your skin is getting a bit of a break while you enjoy the great outdoors.
