I was aware of what I wanted to do for a profession at an early age. I wanted to be a doctor.
With a desire to help people who were hurting, I thought the best way to do that would be through medicine. However, when I asked my parents for a Chemistry Set one year for my birthday, I got the same answer they gave me when I asked for a real Christmas Tree.

What does a 9-year-old do when he realizes his professional dreams are crushed? He decides to go into the media. So, that's what I did and what I've done for the past couple of decades. However, if you're thinking about what you want to be when you grow up, it seems some degrees are more useful than others.

Montana has its fair share of colleges and universities that offer all kinds of degrees; however, the two most popular degrees seem to be in high demand.

According to Study Online, the most popular undergraduate degrees in Big Sky Country are based in health and education.
Many Montana college and university students are getting their degrees in nursing and teaching. A degree in Nursing is the most popular major in Montana, followed by a degree in Teacher Education.
My hat is off to folks going into both professions.
First, it's a ton of work, and both are underpaid and underappreciated. Second, I'm married to a teacher and I know how hard she works and the long hours she puts in to make sure her kids have the best chance of learning. Both are a labor of love, and it takes a special type of person to do the job well.
