An Idea For Pierce Brosnan and Yellowstone National Park

Some big news came out of Yellowstone National Park recently. Actor Pierce Brosnan has been fined for breaking the rules of the park. According to a press release from the park, he was fined "$500, and required to pay a $1,000 community service payment to the Yellowstone Forever Geological Fund, a $30 court processing fee, and a $10 special assessment." He got off lucky. He pled guilty to "foot travel in a thermal area". He could have been seriously injured by doing what he did. Not only that, but the U.S. Attorney's office wanted a much harsher penalty. They asked the court to sentence him to a $5,000 fine and two year probation for the infraction.

Every Year Montana Gets  "Tourons"

Every year Montana sees an influx of people who can't seem to follow the rules in our National Parks, they are known as "Tourons". There are multiple social media pages devoted to people who don't respect the area or the wildlife. Like the TouronsofYellowstone, and the TouronsofNationalParks pages.

The Penalty is A Missed Opportunity

They have already handed down the penalty for Mr. Brosnan. This seems like a missed opportunity, to me. As part of his punishment the court should have had him record a public service announcement warning others about the dangers of doing what he did in the park. They should have had him post the PSA to his 2.1 million followers on his Instagram page. He posted a picture of himself breaking the rules on that very same social media platform.

"Tourons" Have Been Warned

Let this be a lesson to others who will be visiting our National Parks. Follow the rules and the laws in the parks, or you will be punished.
