Butte To Celebrate National Night Out On Tuesday
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make out neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.
National Night Out was established by Matt Peskin in the western suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and has been held annually since 1984. The first annual National Night Out involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in twenty-three states. It has only grown since then.
The event is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts. Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states.
Neighborhoods across the country host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts, and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.
Here in the Mining City National Night Out will be celebrated at McGruff Park, Tuesday, August 1, 2023, from 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm. It will be a great night for the entire family, celebrating our community with those that keep us safe. Make plans to join us if you are in the Butte area.
According to the National Night Out website, there are 12 cities in Montana that are participating. Butte, Bozeman, Billings, East Helena, Fort Benton, Gardiner, Helena, Livingston, Missoula, Shelby, Sidney, and Stevensville.
I mentioned earlier that the very first National Night Out involved 2.5 million people in 1984. Last year’s event involved over 38 million neighbors in 17 thousand communities. A great night to celebrate our community with everyone in it.
