Some of the most important conversations are those that are the hardest to breach. The Butte Public Library is hosting an evening of food and conversation Thursday, July 20th at 5:30 pm. If you would like to be part of the discussion, stop by the library and check out a copy of “White Women: Everything you already know about your own racism and how to do better” by Regina Jackson and Saira Rao.

The book when released was an instant New York Times Bestseller. It is a no-holds-barred guidebook aimed at white women who want to stop being nice and start dismantling white supremacy.

Regina Jackson and Saira Rao are also the founders of Race2Dinner, an organization that facilitates conversations between white women about racism. They have noticed white women’s tendency to maintain a veneer of niceness and strive for perfection, even at the expense of anti-racism work.

They are also the team behind the film ‘Deconstructing Karen’ which explores the same cold hard facts.

Did I mention this was going to be a Difficult Conversation?

If you wish to participate, stop and check out your copy of the book and read it before the conversation on July 20th. During dinner, the party will watch Deconstructing Karen, and the discussion will take place during dessert.

Also, next month’s First Friday discussion will take place on August 4th at noon, on the third floor of the library. Butte’s own Kathleen McLaughlin will be the guest speaker.

The Butte Public Library is located at 226 W. Broadway, in historic uptown Butte.
