Butte High’s list of sporting events this week is dominated by the wrestling programs.

Butte High is coming off an 8th-place finish at the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic wrestling tournament in Missoula.

Individually, Kip Pumnea got on the podium with a runner-up finish at 132. Falling in the championship to defending state champ Teegan Vasquez of Glacier via pin.

Other place winners for Butte High were Zach Tierney, 3rd place at 285 max. Keegan Hunt 8th at 103, and Trey Hansen at 160.

The wrestling programs are busy this week, with home duels scheduled with Missoula Hellgate tonight, and Helena Capital on Thursday.

Tonight: Missoula Hellgate will be in town for duels starting with the JV at 5pm. Boys Varsity will be on the mats at 6pm, and the Girls will also be on the mats starting at 6pm.

Thursday: Helena Capital will be the opponent for a duel at Butte High School. Again, the JV will start at 5pm, Varsity boys at 6, and Girls also at 6.

Capital will be a good challenge for the Bulldogs. Talon Marsh won the Jug Beck this past weekend at 285, Conner Kovick was runner-up at 170, Cashton Spolar finished 5th at 120, and Cole Graham was 6th at 160.

And that isn’t all, the boys will head to Great Falls for the AA Duals on Saturday, and the Girls will jump a bus to Billings for the Billings mixer.

Swimming:

Butte High swimming will be home for the Mining City Invite this Saturday starting at noon, at the Butte Family YMCA. The Bulldog swimmers will have the benefit of being at home for their next two meets, this Saturday, and then again next Friday for the Butte invite.

Basketball:

Butte High Basketball has only one game on the schedule this week, Missoula Sentinel. The Bulldog Boys (3-4 overall, 2-2 conference) will welcome the Spartans (2-6 overall, 1-3 conference) to Ross Richardson on Friday night. The Bulldogs are led by Hudson Luedtke with 14 points a game. Senior Jace Stenson is averaging 9, and Cameron Gurnsey comes in at 8 points a contest.

Sentinel’s leading scorer is Trevor Rausch at 9 points a game, Holter Schweyen, Riley Allen and Patrick Sale all come in at 7 points a game.

With the boys at home that means the Bulldog Girls are back on the road again. Butte High (1-6 overall, 0-4 conference) will be in Missoula to take on the Spartans for the first time this season. Sentinel (6-2 overall, 3-1 conference) enters the Thursday matchup with 3 ladies averaging double figures, CC Size at 15 ppg, Emily McElmurry at 13, and Olivia Huntsinger at 10.

Butte High enters the contest led in scoring by Emmarie Richards with 10 points a game, Laura Rosenleaf right behind averagin 9 points and 10 rebounds. Payton Clary has had a good run for the Dogs the last weeks, and enters averaging 5 points a game.  The girls varsity matchup is scheduled for 7:15 in the Sentinel Gym.
