This year, St. Patrick's Day falls on a Friday and if years past are any indicator, that means things in Butte are going to get a little crazy.  And by Butte standards that means it is going to be really crazy when compared to other celebrations you will see across the state.  And why not?  Butte loves a good party.  But a good party does not mean you can be an ungracious guest, so if you're on your way, here are a few tips to help you enjoy your St. Patrick's Day in Butte, America.

1.  Use the porta potties.  We know, the crowd is huge and the alleyways are plentiful, but please don't relieve yourself in one.  We know good judgement sometimes falls by the wayside shortly after the parade ends but this is a big one.  Not only is it unsanitary but it is illegal.  And in these days of Snapchat and Facebook Live, you just might find your bathroom break on the internet the next day.

2.  Keep your hands to yourself.  This goes for gropers, fighters and thieves alike.  Nobody wants any of your business.  Sure, Butte has a reputation as being a rough-and-tumble town but nobody really goes out looking for a fight.  And nothing sours a good party like a brawl.  Let's keep it peaceful.  And respectful.  There is no Christmas "goose" on St. Patrick's Day.  And thieves in Butte are generally frowned upon as well, especially in public.  So, if it's not your purse, wallet, drink or otherwise, leave it alone.

3.  Do not drive your car.  Seriously.  There will be nowhere nearby to park and public transportation, cabs, ubers and shuttles are everywhere.  Plus, after a day of partying you're not going to feel like walking several blocks back to your vehicle and if you've been imbibing you have absolutely no business driving in the first place.  Stay off the roads.  Seriously.   Police and highway patrol will be everywhere in the area and they take DUIs very seriously.

4.  Have fun.  There is a reason Butte has the best St. Patrick's Day celebration in the country.  It's an incredibly good time.  Just keep your head, don't drink yourself stupid and practice reasonable social skills and you should be good.  We'll see you uptown on Friday.
