From Chaos to Quiet: Uptown Butte Garage Getting Safer
BUTTE, MT - If you’ve ever parked in the Uptown Butte parking garage, you probably know it’s seen better days.
From rowdy teens causing a ruckus to, well, some less-than-pleasant surprises in the stairwells, this garage was practically begging for help. But the good news? As reported by the Montana Standard, things are changing fast for the better.
Butte-Silver Bow officials recently extended a contract with Timberline Security, and so far, it’s said to be paying off big time. What started as an emergency measure to curb drinking, fighting, and other dangerous behavior has transformed into a game-changer for the garage. And Chief Executive J.P. Gallagher is confident this is more than a temporary fix.
Though some remain skeptical, Gallagher proudly shared his thoughts about the garage, namely that behaviors are changing for the better. Since Timberline began patrolling from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., the problems have significantly dropped. Gone are the days of crazy kids walking on rails like daredevils, and there’s been a major decrease in litter, needles, and other unwelcome sights.
Also, what's pretty cool is that Timberline has been stepping in to help intoxicated individuals before they get behind the wheel, potentially saving lives. And for those looking to use the garage as a personal campsite? Think again—the security team has been making sure no one overstays their welcome.
With the county investing $27,000 to keep the garage safe through the end of 2024, it’s clear they’re in it for the long haul. So, the next time you park in Uptown Butte, you can rest a little easier knowing things are finally under control.
