As of August 26, 2024, the well-known local business will be rebranded as Mead Lumber, and while that might sound like a major shift, rest assured that nothing much is really changing beyond the name.

Founded back in 1988 by Milo and Phyllis Stordahl, Triple "S" quickly became a fixture in the community. Whether you needed supplies for a home project or were managing a full-scale build, they’ve been a reliable resource for decades. Now, following their acquisition by Mead Lumber in 2022, the store is aligning with its new parent company’s brand—something that might look different on the outside, but ensures to stay the same on the inside.

Doug and Dave Stordahl, the sons who’ve been running things inside for years, will still be at the helm of the Butte location. In fact, Doug says the transition to Mead Lumber was carefully thought through, ensuring that the same values will remain. “We chose Mead because they aligned with what we’ve always stood for,” Doug said. So if you’ve been worried about this change meaning big corporate shakeups, Doug says that it’s not happening here.

For longtime customers, the day-to-day experience won’t feel much different, though some might miss the familiar Triple "S" sign. Mead Lumber, which operates over 50 locations across nine states, has been around long enough to know that local businesses thrive on the relationships they build. The Butte team will stay the same, and so will the customer-first approach they’ve always taken.

While the rebrand marks a new chapter, this seems to be more about updating the name than shaking things up. The next time you drive by, you might see **Mead Lumber** on the building instead of Triple "S," but inside, it’s still the Butte business that’s been part of the community since the ‘80s.
